In Indian Tradition, Vastu compliance building planning is most important for residential building. Your client in India is very selective and careful about this compliance especially in India. But those who are not aware of it, it doesn't matter for them. So what actually a Vastu is? Let us know a bit about it.

VASTU : Vastu is a science, an ancient Indian science of Architecture in which all the construction and planning of a living house is made according to its science of idea and concept so that the well-being of the people those who live inside that particular building enhance peace and prosperity by making auspicious building. It is the science of direction which combines all the five elements of nature such as earth, fire, air, water and ether. 

Now let us see some of the important points that has to be kept in mind while planning a home as per Vastu Compliance. Some of them are as follows.

1. The ground to be a quadrilateral and not a pentagon or any other polygon.
2. The south west corner has to be a right angle.
3. No corner of the ground to have any angular growth except north east corner.
4.The dwelling unit to be located close to south west zone.
5.There has to be more open space on north and east sides of the house than the south and west sides .
6.All entrances to house to be located from center to north or center to east.
7.water sump, bore well or well have to be located on the north east zone.
8. No water body as above to be located right in front of an entrance.
9. Septic tank and sewerage out puts are not to be planned in south east , south west or north east.
10.Kitchen has to be in south east corner of the house.
11. Master bed room to be in south west corner.
12. Pooja room not to be located at south east corner while north east is more ideal.
13. Master bed room to be larger than rest of the rooms.
14.No toilet to be located at south west, south east or north east corner.
15. North west corner is more ideal for a toilet.
16.Toilets can be planned at center west, or center south and not on center east or center north.
17. No staircase to come at northeast corner of the house at any cost nor along center north or center east.
18. No load of the house to descend on eastern or northern compound wall.
19.Avoid following dimensions in the measurement of the house.
7',9',12',13',14',15',18', 19',23',24',25'34'38'40'. It is spplicable for inner dimensions of rooms,halls ,balconys etc. while for outer dimension in regard to overall length and breadth of the house.
20. The stair case to have clockwise helix and the number of risers to be odd number.
21.The east and north portions of the house to be less heavier than the west and south portions respectively.
22. The number of columns of the structure to be even.
23.The floor level of the sit-outs/ portico in west and south sides not to be lower than the main house floor level.
